Extroverts are the total opposite of introverts. They are the employees that prefer sensory stimulation in the workplace. They love collaborating socially. They prefer visual clutter and conversations to finish a task. These kinds of employees work best in a crowded space, where they can see people face to face and freely converse with them from time to time. In order to maximize the potential of every extrovert in the office, place him in an area where people are frequently passing or assign him in tasks where socialization and public relations are done. Productivity is not always how every brain processes, sometimes it can be achieved through proper strategy and proper placement. Remember, you can’t expect a fish to be productive in the sand. Hence, place your people where they can be who they are and move as they are. 


Absenteeists are usually intelligent employees but you can’t find them when you need them. According to research, the top three reasons why employees choose not to report for work or stay in their working stations are the following:

  3. Misplaced workload;

Absenteeism is rampant in every workplace due to these reasons and because of this companies lost around $400-$500 million a year. Hence, as early as possible absenteeism should be addressed well. This confirms that employees are not really sick but rather they just do not want to report for work. Let us address each reason, one by one. For an uncomfortable or distracted workplace, fixing your office design is a must. Most employees are not found where they should be working because they cannot focus where they are seated. Employees tend to stay in a place where they can think and work like at home or other parts of the office. Next, unmotivated or anxious employees need empowerment. You can start by organizing a seminar-workshop, where your employees take pride in what they do in the office. Offer perks for perfect attendance and completed tasks. Trendy amenities like a relaxing area and cozy pantry is worth a try. This will slowly combat absenteeism as employees would always like to be in the office with the new amenities and perks. Lastly, employees are absent for work because they are not in the task they signed-up for. That is why, it is very important to hire and assign your employees according to merits and capabilities and not just because of vacancies. Place your employees where they can do their best. 


The presenteeists are the counterpart of absenteeists. They are the employees that report to the office even if they do not need to. Just like absenteeism, presenteeism causes financial loss to the company around $150 million a year. Presenteeists report for work but they are not productive. Like sick employees who force themselves to report and end up unproductive at the end of the day, the worst thing about this is they even spread sickness in the workplace in a sniffle. On the other side, the other version of this kind of employee are employees who use company resources for personal gains. Like, staying in the office for free meals and coffee or they just like a comfortable place to relax and still end up unproductive upon reporting in the office. In order to control these habits in the office, you need to have a clear policy about attendance and a flexible work schedule. If your company is operating only on weekdays or until 5 pm, close the premises during weekends and after office hours.
